Mike Lee’s Public Lands Sell-Off Scheme: A Raw Deal for Americans

Senator Mike Lee is trying to ram through a bill that does exactly what he promised he wouldn’t do:
? Sell off over a million acres of OUR public lands to pay off political debts to big oil and gas donors.

Here’s what you need to know:

? Massive Corporate Giveaway:
Lee wants to slash royalty payments from oil and gas companies by nearly 30%. That’s billions of dollars the American people will never see.

? A Fire Sale of Public Land:
To make up the shortfall, he plans a one-time land grab—dumping BLM lands near towns to the highest bidder, with virtually no restrictions to stop foreign corporations or private equity giants like BlackRock from buying them up.

? Broken Promises:
Lee claims he “cut out” National Forests and limited sales to “unutilized” lands. That’s a lie. There are plenty of cherished hunting grounds, wildlife habitats, and recreation areas in the crosshairs. He even left in language that lets adjacent land barons snap up endless parcels while everyday Americans are capped at two.

? Tiny Returns to the Public:
Under current law, 90% of proceeds from any federal land sales are reinvested into conservation and access. Lee’s plan drops that to just 10%. A pathetic trade.

? Fake “Affordable Housing” Excuse:
He wants you to believe this is about affordable housing—but look at Nevada, where similar land sales ended up as million-dollar real estate for developers. You think that’s going to change now?

? No Definition of “Population Center”:
The bill doesn’t even define who gets to call land “near a town.” This is a blank check to liquidate public land wherever special interests see profit.

? No Restriction on Foreign Buyers:
Despite promising protections, Lee’s language does nothing to stop foreign entities from buying up American public land.

? An Outrage to Sportsmen and Public Land Owners:
Hunters, anglers, hikers, and everyone who treasures the outdoors are being sold out so Lee can scratch the backs of big donors.

This is cynical. This is dishonest. And this is a direct attack on our shared heritage.
