MDT Field Stock Review: Is This the Best Upgrade for Your Vanguard?

Affiliate disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. As an affiliate, I may earn a commission from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

Upgrading a Weatherby Vanguard with an MDT field stock

We are upgrading the Weatherby Vanguard .300 Win Mag with a new MDT field stock to improve stability and ergonomics. The rifle started with a standard synthetic stock, which we replaced with the MDT modular technologies field stock.

What the MDT field stock offers

  • Aluminum bedding block: a full aluminum bedding block gives the action a rigid, consistent foundation.
  • Polymer exterior: the polymer outer keeps the rifle lighter and easier to carry than a full chassis.
  • Better ergonomics: a stock that fits you well makes the rifle steadier and easier to shoot accurately.

In the video, we take the rifle to the range to see how the new configuration affects handling and overall accuracy on the target.

Before you upgrade

Check that the stock is made for your exact action and barrel contour, and plan to re-check your zero after the swap. Pair the rifle with a quality scope from OpticsPlanet, feed it ammo from Natchez, and find tools and cleaning supplies at Brownells.

Is the Fierce CT Rage LR worth it?

The Fierce CT Rage LR in 7 PRC is a precision rifle worth examining. This review looks at how it handles and whether it meets your standards for accuracy, focusing on its design and real-world capabilities. Whether you are adding to your collection or shopping for a new long-range rifle, the video covers the essentials.

What to weigh in a long-range rifle

  • Accuracy and consistency: look for tight, repeatable groups with quality ammo, not just one good group.
  • Cartridge: 7 PRC is a modern long-range round, so check ammo availability and cost. Browse ammo at Natchez and True Shot Ammo.
  • Handling: weight, balance and stock fit decide how steady the rifle feels in the field.
  • Optics: a long-range rifle needs a long-range scope. Compare options at OpticsPlanet.
  • Total cost: include the scope, mounts and ammo when you compare prices.

Watch the video above for our verdict.

500-Yard Wyoming Pronghorn Shot! ?

Affiliate disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. As an affiliate, I may earn a commission from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

Long-range pronghorn hunting in Wyoming

Pronghorn are one of the great public-land hunts of the American West. They have sharp eyesight and live in wide-open country, so long-range pronghorn hunting often comes down to one opportunity. In this video, we take a 500-yard shot across the Wyoming prairie on a public-land hunt.

The setup

  • Rifle: Remington 700 Alpha 1.
  • Chassis: MDT LSS chassis.
  • Optic: Telson Optics scope.

Tips for a long-range hunt

  • Know your limits: only take a shot at distances you have proven on the range with this exact rifle and load.
  • Use quality hunting bullets: bullet choice matters for clean, ethical kills. See Barnes Bullets and hunting ammo at Natchez.
  • Glass the country: good binoculars and a rangefinder from OpticsPlanet help you find and range animals.
  • Scout public land: the onX Hunt app shows property boundaries and access points.
  • Dress for the wind and sun: open prairie is exposed, so check Pnuma Outdoors hunting apparel.

Always check Wyoming licensing and hunting regulations before you go.

Barnett Raptor BCX Accuracy Test: Can It Really Perform?

Affiliate disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. As an affiliate, I may earn a commission from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

Is the Barnett Raptor BCX worth your money?

We test the Barnett Raptor BCX crossbow for field accuracy and its cocking mechanism to help you decide. This Barnett Raptor BCX review breaks down the performance of this specific model for hunters and archery enthusiasts, whether you are considering it as a primary hunting tool or a backup.

What to look for in a hunting crossbow

  • Accuracy: check how tight your groups are at the distances you plan to hunt.
  • Cocking mechanism: an easy, repeatable way to cock the bow matters in the field and cuts down on fatigue.
  • Weight and size: a lighter crossbow is easier to carry and a more compact one is easier to use in a blind.
  • Scope and accessories: a quality scope, extra bolts and a quiver round out the setup.
  • Total cost: include the bolts, broadheads and optics, not just the crossbow.

Where to shop

Browse crossbows, bolts and hunting gear at Sportsman’s Warehouse, compare Excalibur crossbows, and look at scopes and rangefinders at OpticsPlanet. Check your state regulations for crossbow hunting before the season.
