Thermal AR-15 vs steel
Clip-on thermal optics let you add thermal imaging in front of a standard daytime scope, so you keep your zero and your reticle while seeing heat signatures. In this video, I run a DPMS AR-15 with an ATN Tico 6 clip-on at steel.
Why use a clip-on thermal?
- Keeps your zero: you do not have to re-sight your daytime optic.
- Keeps your reticle: use the scope you already know.
- Shows heat signatures: useful for spotting targets in the dark.
Shooting steel safely
Use steel rated for your ammo, stay at a safe distance, and wear eye and ear protection. See Infinity Targets and ShellShock electronic hearing protection.
